WOMEN’S HORMONE HEALTH

Specialized Perimenopause and Menopause Care

We take a comprehensive approach to hormone health, bringing symptoms, health history, lab results and ongoing clinical monitoring together to build a more complete picture of what is happening in your body. Bioidentical hormone therapy protocols are prescribed, monitored and adjusted over time based on an individuals response, changing symptoms and evolving health needs.

This approach recognizes that hormone health does not exist in isolation. That’s why we look at the broader systems that may influence hormone function or contribute to symptoms, helping identify where additional support may be beneficial. The result is a holistic approach to midlife hormonal changes and overall health.

HORMONAL TRANSITION

Stages of Perimenopause, Menopause and Postmenopause

The menopausal transition happens in three stages. Every woman's experience is different, but here's generally what to expect.

Stage One

Perimenopause

Estrogen and progesterone fluctuate before they decline. Erratic cycles, hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disruption, mood changes, and brain fog are common. Pregnancy is still possible.

Stage Two

Menopause

The official point in time after 12 consecutive months without a period. The ovaries have stopped releasing eggs, and estrogen production has significantly declined.

Stage Three

Post-Menopause

Hot flashes may taper off, but sustained low estrogen means ongoing attention to bone density and cardiovascular health becomes increasingly important.

        FUNCTIONAL OPTIMIZATION

Optimizing Other Factors That May Support Hormone Health

Thorough assessment and optimization of broader health factors may also help to support steadier energy, metabolism, mood, cognition and hormone function alongside Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. We consider many other factors alongside your symptoms and lab results to identify where targeted treatment or support may help you feel and function better through perimenopause and menopause.

        01

        Thyroid Function

Often overlooked, thyroid dysfunction can closely mimic menopause symptoms such as fatigue, weight changes, mood disturbances, brain fog, and hair loss.

        02

        Cortisol & Stress

Chronic stress can suppress progesterone and testosterone, disrupt sleep, increase abdominal weight gain, and intensify anxiety and mood changes.

        03

        Iron Storage

Low iron stores may contribute to fatigue, brain fog, hair loss, reduced exercise tolerance, and changes in thyroid function.

        04

        Blood Sugar

Insulin sensitivity may decrease as estrogen declines, contributing to weight changes, fatigue, brain fog, and increased metabolic risk.

        05

        Gut Health

Digestive function plays an important role in metabolizing and clearing hormones and may also affect inflammation, digestion, and weight management.

        06

        Muscle Mass

Accelerated muscle loss can begin during perimenopause, affecting metabolism, insulin sensitivity, strength, and overall physical capacity.

        FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions About Hormone Therapy

        What is menopause?

Menopause is the point at which a woman has not had a period for 12 consecutive months due to declining hormone levels. The average age of menopause is 51.

        What is perimenopause?

Perimenopause is the transitional stage before menopause, when estrogen and progesterone levels fluctuate before declining. It can begin as early as mid-30s, but typically begins in a woman's 40s and can last several years, ending once menopause is reached.

Does hormone therapy increase cancer risk?

When appropriately prescribed, hormone therapy is considered safe for many women. Risks vary by the hormones used, duration of treatment and individual health history, and some risks can be reduced through proper treatment selection and monitoring. For most women the benefits outweigh the risks when started before age 60 and within 10 years of menopause. Your clinician will review your individual risk profile.

How long can I stay on hormone therapy?

There is no mandatory age or duration at which hormone therapy must be stopped. The decision is individualized based on symptoms, personal preference, health history, and ongoing assessment with your clinician. Many women safely continue beyond age 60.

Are bioidentical hormones safer than traditional hormones?

Health Canada-approved bioidentical hormones are held to the same rigorous safety and efficacy standards as other regulated medications. Compounded formulations can offer flexibility for individual needs, though they are not subject to the same regulatory approval.

Can hormone therapy be used as birth control?

Hormone therapy does not act as contraception.

What screening should I continue while on hormone therapy?

Mammograms, PAP smears, and routine bloodwork should continue as recommended by Canadian guidelines, alongside your regular check-ins with the Rosie team.
